\"cutting<\/a>Atlanta Design & Build\u2019s production team joined 100 registered attendees at the 2016 Cutting Edge Educational Remodeling Expo<\/b> presented by NARI Atlanta on May 11 at the Cobb Galleria Centre. Victoria Downing, president of Remodelers Advantage, was the keynote speaker. This fabulous Expo also offered CEU educational seminars, an exhibit hall featuring 50 renovation vendors, interactive round tables, and a post session networking event. Remodelers Advantage team members and 30+ top industry leaders presented the seminars and round tables. H. Dale Contant started out the Cutting Edge in the morning.\u00a0 After attending and presenting at a WSB-TV lunch & learn Home Services Seminar<\/a>, he returned as Master of Ceremonies in the evening. Quite a line-up of players sharing their skill and expertise!<\/p>\n

Our production crew received six CEU credits for their attendance at the Cutting Edge. Each team member came to the event with notepads in hand to write down \u201cgolden nuggets\u201d that they gleaned from the event. Here are just a few:<\/p>\n

Dave Newell<\/h4>\n

Cutting Edge provided opportunities to hear about various products from the manufacturers themselves.\u00a0I learned more about new bolting patterns on LVL\u2019s. I learned about ground contact pressure treated lumber and that they are phasing out the non-ground contact pressure treated. I learned about new composite deck boards. This information helps me to provide the best for our clients.<\/p>\n

Jamie Franks<\/a><\/u><\/h4>\n

The classes were good in letting us know of ways to improve business practices, product installation, stay current with design and changes in the inspection requirements. The sessions keep us up-to-date on trends, design, products and materials used in today\u2019s market.\u00a0We stay apprised of Codes changing and grow in understanding Code for insulation, electric, decks, etc.\u00a0 Product installation sessions taught by manufacturers increased my understanding of proper ways to install various products: tile, waterproofing,\u00a0Durock and Wonderboard materials, Tyvek product installation and waterproofing of windows and doors. Remodelers Advantage Roundtable presenters added a lot of valuable input and ideas on best business practices.<\/p>\n

Sydney Contant<\/a><\/u><\/h4>\n

The various sessions were very worthwhile. For example, in a tile class I learned more about the trade and what the expectation for a GOOD tile job is to be. 6\u2019 x 12\u2019 porcelain tiles are going to be available for American clients soon. Imagine a whole wall pattern with fewer grout lines and many new options for clients. Epoxy grout already has a sealer and doesn\u2019t need cleaning. Both of these provide low maintenance options for clients to consider. Each class had valuable tips and details that will help me grow my skills in managing projects and caring for my clients.<\/p>\n

Bill Brown<\/h4>\n

Cutting Edge was a great opportunity for talking shop with others in the trades. I learned to look for ground contact pressure treated lumber and in what applications to use it. I also learned proper ways to waterproof when installing windows and doors. Plus new bolt patterns for 4×4\u2019s so the wood won\u2019t tear itself apart. Really valuable knowledge when I\u2019m making sure our jobs are being done the right way!<\/p>\n

Mike Pike<\/a><\/u><\/h4>\n

The day\u2019s event was a great opportunity to learn. Product information shared is valuable; i.e. becoming aware of above ground and ground contact pressure treated wood and new methods for bolting posts.\u00a0 The information shared will ensure we provide our client\u2019s a high quality end product.<\/p>\n

Even though our production team stepped away for this time of development at the Cutting Edge, their work continued since the Project Managers scheduled our trade partners at each of the current job sites.
