Our first post this month focused on the gourmet kitchen. In this blog, we are looking at the conventional kitchen, for those families that don’t need the full gourmet experience.

Two of our Atlanta Design & Build design experts – President Dale Contant, MCR, CRPM, UDCP, and Design & Sales Consultant, Heather Marcet-Henderson, AKBD – share insights on kitchens in the Atlanta area.

A high-end look on a budget

Having a realistic budget maximum to spend on a kitchen remodel does not mean you have to settle for a kitchen that doesn’t meet your needs.

At Atlanta Design & Build, we’re experts in finding the right solutions for your kitchen, to design and build a project that accomplishes your goals. Our proprietary HOMEStyle System™, facilitates our working with you to prioritize the most important aspects of your kitchen project. This allows us to focus on what matters most in your specific remodel. Every family is unique and every kitchen deserves that same attention.

Our goal is to set realistic expectations from the beginning and understand your goals for style, function and budget.

Finding pain points

What are the problems in your kitchen? Almost everyone who comes to us for a project has a kitchen that was designed by somebody else, whether it be a builder or previous homeowner, that simply isn’t meeting their needs.

“Are they just old cabinets? Is it a terrible layout? Is there a lack of storage?” Dale says. “We want to get all those answers together and then determine, do we need to design this towards your dream kitchen that you want, or do we need to design it towards a budget scope or a combination of the two?”

The most important part of a successful kitchen remodel is establishing those priorities upfront.

Creative solutions

While high-end appliances won’t fit into a conventional kitchen budget we can still attain great functionality and an attractive look. Some of our favorite appliance options are double-oven ranges, and stainless steel chimney hoods that offer an aesthetic without a cost-conscious look. Instead of a built-in refrigerator, a counter-depth option offers tremendous savings. A countertop microwave with a trim kit can replicate a built-in look at a fraction of the cost.

Cabinet lines can offer significant savings as well. We work with a great cabinet manufacturer who, while offering fewer options than our high-end choice, delivers an amazing look. It takes more creative design solutions, but allows us to deliver a great looking kitchen on an affordable budget.

Countertops also continue to become more affordable. We’re seeing quartz as the choice for most of our kitchens today. The great news is that there are brands and options that work for almost every budget, making it even easier to achieve that high-end look at a lower cost.

You can certainly remodel the conventional family kitchen with updated style, increased functionality at a fair price.
