Sydney Contant’s climb to Project Manager

Sydney Contant of Atlanta Design & Build

After graduating from high school, Sydney worked for five years as an apprentice under ADB project managers, Mike Pike and Jamie Franks. Mike and Jamie had her doing everything, from demo, framing, and trimming out, to decking and screened porches. Now she is a Certified Remodeling Project Manager (CRPM) running jobs on her own. Her favorite part of a project comes after the walls are up and the project is ready for all the cosmetic details. “I actually enjoy tedious work,” said Sydney. “I get great satisfaction out of giving our customers exactly what they want, giving them 100 percent.” Rather than communicating with customers by email, she prefers setting up weekly or bi-weekly meetings so she can discuss with them one-on-one if they have any questions or concerns. The best practice that helped garner Sydney the “40 Under 40” award is her detailed note taking throughout the various stages of each project. For Sydney, taking thorough notes is the key to a project’s success. Read more about Sydney’s 40 Under 40 award.

Continuing in the family business

Her dad, H. Dale Contant, is understandably proud of Sydney. “My most proud accomplishment is that I have a 3rd generation Contant in the remodeling field: my daughter Sydney,” said Dale. “She’s a mini-me. She didn’t want to go to college. She became a CRPM last year. The two other guys from ADB and myself who passed the exam have twenty years on her! She was elected one of the “40 Under 40” this year by Professional Remodeler magazine. Her nomination came from a kitchen designer she works with, Caren Danneman. I thought that was awesome!”
